I was inspired to make this work after a trip to Alaska. Kechikan is a town made of many small islands. Travel from island to island is by kayak. I learned how to kayak in Kechikan. Chopin's Barcarolle, Op. 70 comes to mind when I think of Kechikan - a barcarolle is a Venetian Boat Song; an appropriate tune, I think.
